What a year! I can’t believe that it is already August. Let’s look at the national days we might celebrate this month.
August 1-7th – National Cleanse Your Skin Week. Have your esthetics students give lessons to clients on the best way to cleanse their skin.
Week of August 16th – National Elvis Week. Let’s break out the Elvis music this week and have hairstyling/haircutting contests to celebrate the fashion and style from the 50s.
August 1st – National Girlfriends Day. Offer “Girlfriends Day” specials in your student salons and encourage girlfriends to come and spend the day together getting pampered… social distancing of course!
August 3rd – National Watermelon Day. Take a Monday afternoon break and have some watermelon for clients and students in celebration of National Watermelon Day.
August 4th – National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day. Have students make chocolate chip cookies. Add various amounts of chocolate chips to represent various levels of melanin in the hair. Use brown chips to represent the eumelanin, butterscotch chips to represent the pheomelanin and add one white chocolate chip for the medulla. If your students are still working online, encourage them to do this at home and take pictures and share with you.
August 6th – National Root Beer Float Day. Another fun afternoon summer treat to break up the busy student salon.
August 8th – National Happiness Happens Day. Spend the day encouraging happiness and encourage students to do the same. Recognize every moment of joy, delight, laughter and glee! Give students a sticker every time you see their happiness shine through. At the end of the day, which ever student has the most stickers wins a prize!
August 9th – National Book Lovers Day. Can’t let a book lovers day go buy with out celebrating our favorite Milady book. Take a picture of your favorite Milady book and post it online. #milady
August 12th – National Vinyl Day. Ditch the radio for the day and play your favorite vinyl. Drag in your old record player and LP’s and hook it up to the schools’ sound system and rock on! Ask everyone to bring in their favorite LP.
August 13th – National Left Handers Day. Use the day to appreciate all the left-handed students in your school. Have a fun competition between right-handed students by having them create fingerwaves, pincurls, rollersets or perm wraps all left-handed. All your left-handed students to be the judge!
August 21st – National Brazilian Blowout Day. Take this day to educate students on a subject you might not get to spend much time on.
August 21st – National Senior Citizens Day. Offer discounted services to all senior citizens and say thank you for your business.
