Happy National Random Acts of Kindness Day.
Today we celebrate being kind to one another. This doesn’t
take a lot of planning, simply an awareness on everyone’s part to focus on
being nice to others. The benefits of sharing joy with others doesn’t only
benefit the person receiving it, it creates joy in the one spreading it too.
“Dilbert” cartoonist Scott Adams
said, “Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act
creates a ripple with no logical end.”
Here are a few ideas on how to spread random acts of kindness:
- Smile at people when you pass them.
- Pay for the coffee of the car behind you.
- Compliment a co-worker or fellow student.
- Say thank you when someone does something for
you, even if it is as simple as holding the door open for you.
- Help another student by picking up their dirty
towels, sweeping up their hair, etc.
- Text a hello to someone you haven’t seen in a
while.
- Leave someone a kind comment and avoid the sarcastic
ones.
- Email someone who has made a difference in your
life.
- Post anything involving a dog or cat, you will
absolutely brighten someone’s day.
- Leave a kind note for someone.
Keryl Reid-Rabideau shared this idea with us on our Milady
Instructor Facebook Group. She provides paper, stickers, markers, etc. so students
can write a Things I Like about You note to another student.
National Random Acts of Kindness Day doesn’t have to be
limited to one day each year. I was looking through past blogs we have written,
and here a couple of ideas how to keep showing kindness year-round.
I’ll leave you with this thought from Mr. Rogers, “There are
three ways to ultimate success. The first way is to be kind. The second way is
to be kind. The third way is to be kind.”
In the words of Ellen DeGeneres, go out and “be kind to one
another.”
