Happy New Year!
Welcome to 2019. What do you plan to do this year? What new
year’s resolutions have you set for yourself? For your business? For your school?
When I speak to educators around the industry, one thing I often hear is that they would love to bring more digital solutions into their classrooms. We realize that our students are fully immersed in digital tools and by finding a way to incorporate them into our curriculums we are going to meet them where they are. Digital resources are not only beneficial to our students, but they can be a fantastic resource for the educators as well.
So, if you are looking to up-level your use of technology in the new year, here are 7 Milady resources that will help you incorporate digital solutions into your education.
- MindTap. If your school is ready to jump all into digital education, this is the tool for you. MindTap incorporates Milady content into a read, watch do format. Students follow a learning path through each chapter with interactive learning tools including reading, videos, activities and assessments.
- Haircutting Simulation. This is a fun and creative way to help your students become comfortable and confident in their haircutting skills. Students will work their way through 9 different haircuts focusing on following directions, sectioning, lines and angles, hand positioning, shear positioning and more.
- Online Licensing Prep. If your school is really considering moving to a digital solution, but you aren’t sure you’re ready to jump in with MindTap, Online Licensing Prep (OLP) is a great way to get your feet wet. It is simply a digital version of the Exam Review book that we all love and adore. OLP goes a step further in that it is a web-based product. This helps students get comfortable taking a test on a computer similar to what they will do at many state board exams. In addition, the system generates test questions in a different order each time they use it, so students can’t simply highlight the correct answer and memorize it. There are three ways to take a test:
- Chapter review format, so they can see the answer immediately
- Chapter test format, where they won’t see any answers until they finish the test
- Comprehensive format, which randomly pulls a 100-question test from the entire book
- Available for all disciplines, and with a click of a button, the tests will switch from English to Spanish.
- Milady’s YouTube Channel. YouTube is the most used website by this generation of learners. There is amazing content available and some not so amazing content. Always make sure you completely watch anything you show your students before you show it to them. You don’t want them to pick up any bad habits. To help you deliver great content that meets the high educational standards of your school, be sure to check out both of Milady’s YouTube channels, Milady Academic and MiladyPro.
- MiladyPro.com On this site, you will find articles, blog posts, videos and more. MiladyPro focuses on helping professionals and future professionals develop their softs skills and business skills. There is something available for all disciplines.
- Academic Blog. If you are reading this post, chances are you are already familiar with this one. The blog will provide you with curriculum ideas, educator tips, advice on technology and basic industry information. It is a great resource for new ideas and a little inspiration.
- Milady Instructors Facebook Group. Have you joined our new instructor only Facebook group? If not, stop what you are doing and go and join now! Simply search for “Milady Instructors”, ask to join the group and we will get you add in. This is a community of educators who face the same challenges day in and day out. We provided you with inspiration, motivation, tips and ideas. And we encourage you to share what you are doing in your schools as well.
Any one of these tools will help you get more comfortable
with brining digital solutions into your classrooms.
