Can you
believe it? 2020 is almost here. Let’s look at January National Days.
If your
school likes to host potlucks with staff or students, January is National Soup Month
and the first Sunday of January is National Pizza Week. Either one would be a good
theme for a January potluck.
January 1st
– Happy New Year
January 2nd
– National Science Fiction Day. Take the day and have students create their best science
fiction themed hair, makeup or nails.
January 8th
– National Joygerm Day. What is National Joygerm day you ask? It is a day to remind people that
when you are positive and treat people with kindness you can influence the
other people around you and pass along your positive attitude. When we share
good moods, we impact other people lives and then those people become joyous
too. So, be a joygerm and spread the germ to others!
January 8th
– National Winter Skin Relief Day. Offer services in the student salon for clients dealing
with dry skin brought on by winter.
January
11th – National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. Many states around the country are bringing
awareness to human trafficking as part of continuing education for licensed
professionals. On this day, have a guest
speaker come in and speak on the issue of human trafficking.
January
11th – National Vision Board Day. I didn’t know this was officially a national day
until I began writing this. But, how excited am I? January is the perfect time
to set goals for the upcoming year. Today, have students take those goals and
make a visual collage representing all they want to accomplish this year.
January
13th – National Clean Off Your Desk Day. Educators, this one is for you! Get
in your office and clean up that desk!
January
15th – National Strawberry Ice Cream Day. Enjoy a pick-me-up in the student
salon by brining in some yummy strawberry ice cream for an afternoon snack.
Grab another flavor or two for those that might be allergic to strawberries.
January
23rd – National Pie Day. Who doesn’t love national pie day? Have every student bring
in their favorite pie and enjoy!
January
28th – National Have Fun at Work Day.
Bring the end of January to life by making this day all about fun.
Brainstorm with your team and figure out what they all want to do in order to
make this day a blast. Then take pictures and share them on your social media
pages with #FunAtWorkDay.
January
31st – National Big Wig Day. So, when I first saw this day, I thought “how fun!” A day
dedicated to wigs! Let’s break out the
chapter on wigs and bring it to life by having some fun with “big wigs”. But,
when I investigated what this day was about, it wasn’t about hair wigs at all.
I was so disappointed. Turns out, it is about being a “big wig”. A way to
express the potential inside of us by being a “big wig”. I like my idea
better!
