Recently, Milady asked a group of students what tools they had been using to study with during the past few weeks. One of the tools listed by multiple students was Pinterest. Honestly, this surprised me.
You see, for me, Pinterest is where I go for DIY Ideas from arts and crafts to party planning to design ideas for my house. Curious about this, I asked Monica, a Milady co-worker and a Millennial, about it and she absolutely agreed! She said she gets all of her haircolor ideas from Pinterest, searching topics like “Cool Blondes” or “Fun Hair Ideas”.
I was still a bit hesitant so I decided to check it out for myself and guess what…Pinterest is a great resource for today’s students. Here are just a few ideas on how a student could use Pinterest as an educational tool.
- Have the student create their own Style Board and showcase their talents with before and after photos of their work. This could be a great resource when they are job hunting as well as a tool to show clients a collection of their work.
- Find inspiration ideas for styles, cuts, color, makeup, and nails. Rather than pulling out the old style books, students can use their phone or tablet to suggest new looks and styles for their clients.
- Search for business tips and suggestions on topics like customer service, marketing, and social media.
So, is Pinterest a valuable resource or an excuse to use a cell phone? I’m going to go with valuable resource.
This idea has stretched me outside of my comfort zone, are you willing to join me and give it a try?
