Have students write down on a piece of paper one thing they are fearful of or one question they have as it relates to the topic for the day.
Next, have them crumble up the paper to resemble a “snowball”.
Have students stand up in a circle. Let the students have a snowball fight for about one minute.
Summarize the activity by recapping that these fears or questions are now out in the open and they don’t need to worry about their fears or worry about not knowing something for the rest of the class.
Throughout the class, as you are teaching the material, periodically incorporate a group activity. Put students into groups of 5 to 7. Then ask each group to pick one of the snowballs and read the fear/question that is recorded. The group then spends 5 minutes discussing the fear and how that fear can be overcome.
