The last couple of continuing education events I’ve taught have been about using different apps and websites to bring more technology into our classrooms. One feature that I’ve been trying out is Facebook’s Live Stream. This feature allows you to send out a live video to your Facebook friends to watch either live or later. You may have noticed on your own Facebook feed that there has been an influx of “live” videos.
There are a number of fun things that we can do with this concept in our schools:
On your school’s fan page use live videos to promote your business. On a busy afternoon in the student salon, do a live update. Share what is happening, such as various services or maybe even a special of the day. Clients could be reminded that they need to make an appointment while prospective students will see how much fun education can be.
Create a student group page and send an announcement out to your current student body letting them know about upcoming events such as guest speakers or field trips. If you are attending a hair show, go live from the show and share something amazing happening at the event.
On my Facebook feed the other day I ran across a live stream post from Modern Salon. They were going live from Premiere Orlando where they did multiple live streams on various demonstrations including color, braids and blowouts! Since we don’t always have an opportunity to take students to shows like Premiere Orlando, this concept provides us with an amazing opportunity to bring hair shows into our classrooms.
Modern Salon is simply one of many who are doing this. What industry educators are you seeing on Facebook? Who would you recommend following?
