We are all faced with the challenge of what to do with students during downtime. This downtime often occurs when the student doesn’t have enough time to start a new project in between clients or if it’s simply one of those days when the clinic floor is slow. The challenge is that when students aren’t busy they can lose focus quickly and it is our job as Master Educators to keep students on track and focused.
Why not take advantage of technology during downtime? Many product manufactures now offer product apps. These apps can be a powerful source of information for students. There are many professional product apps available and it is more than likely that your school’s professional product line offers an app. Or, why not have your students experience and learn about other products that you don’t necessarily carry in your schools to help create a well-rounded graduate. You will find that each product app offers an array of information such as step-by-step technical videos, styling techniques, “how to” tutorials, product knowledge, retailing tips, consultation tools, head sheets, business tips and the latest seasonal trends.
Encourage your students to download one or many product apps onto their personal devices. You may simply direct students to view one of their product apps during downtime or create several product app activities that you can assign to students to help keep them not only busy during downtime but learning and engaged.
