If you have been following our blog for a while, you
probably know that I am a big fan of bringing things from outside the classroom
into the school to engage with students.
One of those methods is through celebrating national days.
To find out what national days are being celebrated each
month, just do a quick Google search and find out.
Some national days allow us to tie everyday happenings to
our curriculum content. Sometimes they
might help us promote our student salons or industry. Other times, they are great simply for
motivating students.
Here is a look at a few National Days that are happening
during the month of July. Pick one or two and have some fun!
July 20th
– National Toss Away the Could Haves and the Should Haves Day. This is a great day to encourage your student
to release their past performance behavior and start fresh. Many times, students have poor attendance or
test scores and feel that there is no way to overcome their past poor
performance. Use this day to challenge them
to start fresh. To forget about past mistakes and choose to live in the present
making the best of today.
July 24th –
National Gorgeous Grandma Day.
Celebrate all the amazing grandma’s that come into your student salon
with a small discount on services.
Consider tying the discount to something you need more practice on for your
students. Something like:
In honor of National Gorgeous Grandma’s Day
we are offering a 5% discount to all Grandmas on Basic
Facials.
July 25th – National Refreshment
Day. As a change of pace in the
student salon, celebrate this day by having Lemonade, Iced Tea and cookies available
all afternoon for students and clients.
July 27th – National Jersey Day. Not only do I love National Day celebrations,
but when you can tie it into me getting to wear my favorite jersey… score! I know not everyone is going to be a major
sports fan; however, you might be surprised.
Even those who don’t follow professional sports are bound to have a kid
or two that plays a sport. Celebrate
National Jersey Day and give students a break from dress code by allowing them
to wear their favorite team jersey, any sport and any level of play.
July 29th – National Lipstick Day. Have some fun with lipstick on this day. Encourage every student to show off their favorite shade and spend the day with selfies and social media posts to celebrate #nationallipstickday. In addition, take the opportunity to relate it to content and discuss warm versus cool colors as well as lip shapes and corrective application techniques.
