Welcome to the next relationship we need to discuss. We have talked about our relationship with students and co-workers. Now it is time to look at our relationship with our supervisors or employers.
This relationship must work to ensure that the mission of the school is met. Support their leadership and what they must do in their position.
Just like with our fellow educators we don’t want to complain or talk smack about the owners. They have a tough job to do. It isn’t easy owning a school or running a school. They have responsibilities that we may not be aware of.
Our role is to work with them effectively so that we can meet the needs of the students and make the school a success.
Here are 10 steps to follow in creating a positive relationship with supervisors.
- Set high standards for professional performance
- Verify questionable information
- Pay close attention to instructions
- Provide thorough and accurate reports
- Be observant, detect errors and correct them or notify the appropriate personnel
- Exercise initiative in starting and following through
- Be a problem solver
- Communicate ideas clearly and concisely
- Develop and convey self-confidence
- Follow all requirements of the job descriptions
