Using sticky notes certainly isn’t a new concept in helping one stay organized. Thanks to technology, the old-fashioned sticky notes have a new look and feel. Getting organized and staying on task is now even easier within the classroom. With a few simple clicks you can create, customize and save those helpful reminders securely onto your desktop until you decide to delete them.
Believe it or not this helpful tool lives within Windows. I never knew this app existed but apparently, it has been there for quite some time. A colleague of mine just introduced me to it and I’m loving it! It allows you to create all kinds of helpful reminder notes right from your computer, while eliminating the need to run around looking for that stack of sticky notes. I also can’t forget to mention the cost savings since you no longer need to purchase them, as well as all of the paper that you are preventing from going into our landfills. It’s a win-win!
As Master Educators, we can certainly use this helpful tool to stay on task within the classroom or student salon. We can set little reminders about a new classroom activity that we want to incorporate into our day or any other reminder for that matter.
To create a digital sticky note, open your Windows program, depending on which version of Windows you are running, the application may vary slightly.
#1: Open your Windows program, look for either “Accessories” or “Sticky Notes.”
#2: Click on the + sign to add a new note. Position the cursor at the beginning of the note and type in your desired message, for example, “Don’t forget to check-out the Sticky Note application!”
#3: To change the color of the Sticky Note, click on the menu tab found within the Sticky Note and click on your desired color; yellow, green, blue, purple or pink.
#4: To format the note, select the desired text and press the appropriate shortcut key: Ctrl+B for BOLD text, Ctrl+l for ITALICS, and Ctrl+U for UNDERLINING.
#5: To delete a note click on the trash can icon.
Voila’ you have a digital Sticky Note to help keep you get organized and stay on task.
