I was recently in a school that had a sign hanging in their hallway that read, “Through these Halls Walks the Future of our Industry”.  

This message was so important to the school that they had it hanging in every hallway at both campuses I visited.  Clearly, this was a message they wanted to get across to their students.  I love this sign because it is a great reminder to both students and staff what the purpose of school and training is all about.

For students, it is a reminder that school is just a stop on their journey.   Each of our students comes to school with a dream and a purpose.  However, they can often lose focus of their dream and let the challenges of their current situation stop and derail them from working toward their goals.  This sign is a daily reminder to students that the challenges and struggles they face are only temporary because soon they will complete this portion of their journey and head on towards their goal of becoming a professional in the beauty and wellness industry.

For the staff, I believe it is a reminder of the powerful and awesome responsibility we have as educators to train the future professionals of our industry.  Each and every one of us that is currently working as an educator, school director, in admissions or as a school owner, has a career thanks to the success of the beauty and wellness industry.  We all have a responsibility to the future of our industry.  What we do today with our students makes an impact on tomorrow.  The next time you aren’t excited about going to work or a challenging student makes you want to pull your hair out, keep in mind that what you are doing that day is keeping the dream alive, not only for your students but also for an incredible industry that has made your life just a little bit better.
