If you pay attention to anything at all on the internet,
then you know that Bird Box fever has taken over the world. For those who don’t know what this is, Bird
Box is a movie on Netflix where the characters in the movie navigate most of
the movie while blindfolded.
Since the movie released in December, there have been memes
and videos posted all over social media showing people trying to do various
Bird Box challenges. Most of them are
very dangerous and should never be tried under any circumstances.
However, I think there is some fun to be had in our
cosmetology schools with the Bird Box Challenge. Before I share some fun challenge ideas, I
want to make it clear that these challenges should not include anything sharp,
hot, or potentially dangerous.
How can you take full advantage of the Bird Box Challenge in your school?
Create a few fun contests and blindfold the students when
performing the tasks. Put students into
teams, allowing them to coach each other.
Have students compete against each other, against educators or have some
cross-department fun.
Make it fun and see how well students can perform various
technical skills while blindfolded.
Technical skills could include:
- Perm
wraps
- Sectioning
- French
braids
- Updo’s
- Nail
polish application
- Chemical
draping
- Finger
waving
- Roller
sets
- Hair
wrapping
- Facial
massage manipulations
- Hand and
arm massage
Again, stay away from anything sharp, hot or dangers and for safety reasons, perform all the challenges on a mannequin head or hand.
