We must be engagers.
I think this describes who we are as educators. We need to find relevant and fun activities
that you can add to your class or student salon. This will go a long way in helping you create
a fun and positive learning environment, which in turn will create an
environment where students can become motivated.
I think one of the biggest challenges that we
have in making things fun in school is the time that it takes to plan and
prepare.
To help you out, I want to share an idea I got
from Ida McLean from Searcy Beauty School.
They recognized the need to have something fun planned in their school
every day. So, they got together and
create a monthly calendar and planned one fun thing for every day of the
week. Some days are very simple to implement,
and others take a little extra work.
If you get together with your team and spend
about an hour discussing this, you can easily have a six-month calendar
created. This way, you won’t have to
stop and think about what you should do for fun each day, it’s already in
place.
I love to have fun! I want my work to be fun. When I was in
school, I wanted my classrooms to be fun.
Basically, I want every day and everything I do to be a great big party! I want every day of my life to look like is
the final scene from Footloose. Confetti
and glitter flying, music playing, and Kevin Bacon yelling “I thought this was a party! Let’s
dance!!”
